Gathering of the Passed
Gathering of the Passed (2022) is a series of natural material exploration during my residency at the Periplus Form Workshop in Kardamyli, Greece. Bringing together various “passed” and “passed by” elements found through foraging in the mountain of Kardamyli, I explore the themes of life cycles, and appreciation of the unnoticed.
I first learned the burnt wood technique from Professor Jack Elliott at Cornell University as his undergraduate research assistant. This technique brings a stark contrast that underscores the interplay between life and death, and highlights the inherent beauty and complexity of the discarded olive branches.
The final three pieces of olive branches are arranged together to create a silhouette reminiscent of the local mountain ranges.
