Line Lab

Line Lab is a playful tinkering tool that turns hand-drawn symbols into digital components visualized through augmented reality. We trained a bespoke machine learning model to detect and classify drawings from a preordained dataset, and used AR to overlay interactive 3D assets atop them. This led to a surprisingly intuitive tangible user interface that people of various ages could engage with almost immediately.

Our initial concept of Line Lab explored the potential of this technology as an education tool that combined Do-It-Yourself (DIY) cardboard components and augmented reality (AR), allowing children to design and iterate their own robots quickly without needing expensive kits.
